As you may have seen at the east end of the Briarhills park, the City has begun making preparations to replace a collapsed 84" storm sewer outfall pipe into the bayou. The trench could be up to 25' deep in places, so a very substantial excavation. It will be done in 2 parts so that the park trail will not be closed, just like the procedure for the previous replacement farther west, near the office building. Below is additional information from Harris County Flood Control:
A contractor for the City of Houston is starting a pipe replacement project near 14218 Briarhills Parkway (see
map) on Flood Control property, but this is not a Flood Control project. The City of Houston contractor will be installing 84 inch diameter pipe as it runs from a manhole into Buffalo Bayou. The project should take 4 weeks to complete (weather permitting).
Large mechanized equipment will be utilized for this effort and some trees and soil will be disturbed in the process. Please keep children away from the fenced construction area and large machinery.
If residents in the area have questions, please feel free to contact the city of Houston Project Manager – Mr. Chuck Ueker.
